FULLER RACES CATERPILLAR DRAGSTER TO QUARTERFINAL FINISH AT POMONA

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2008) – Rod Fuller drove his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster to a quarterfinal finish Sunday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The six-time NHRA Top Fuel winner ranks seventh in the Top Fuel standings.

A day after missing the tune-up on both of Saturday’s qualifying efforts, CAT power was back. Fuller used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to cruise to low elapsed time of the round. The Las Vegas racer drove the Caterpillar car to a pass of 4.494 seconds at 326.24 mph to earn the win in the left lane. Grubnic’s all-black dragster lost traction and slowed to a run of 5.420 seconds.

In round two, Fuller was matched against two-time series champion Larry Dixon. Fuller’s yellow-and-black rail fell off and slowed to a run of 4.691 at 297.75, while Dixon sped to a pass of 4.551 seconds to earn the trip to the semifinals.

“You’re never happy after losing, but we had a good turnaround today,” Fuller said. “We struggled in qualifying and to come out and run that 4.494 show what this team is capable of. We just had too much power and spun the tires in the second round. Rob (Flynn) has a handle on things and we’re going to a track that we’ve had a lot of success at.”

The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event is the 24th annual CSK Nationals, Feb. 22-24, at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler , Ariz. Fuller is the two-time defending champion of the Phoenix race.

Headquartered in Houston with race operations located in Brownsburg , Ind. , David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Rod Fuller and Antron Brown. DPM proudly represents racing partners Matco Tools, Caterpillar, Valvoline, Toyota , Forward Sports Marketing, Goodyear, FRAM, Autolite, Ringer’s Gloves, and Go Fast Sports.
