POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2008) – Rod Fuller drove his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster to the provisional No. 9 qualifying spot Thursday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The six-time Top Fuel winner clocked a run of 4.558-seconds in his Caterpillar dragster.
Fuller, who finished second in the 2007 NHRA standings, used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to power his CAT dragster to run of 4.558 seconds at 325.30 mph. Fuller, who led preseason testing in Phoenix with a run of 4.468 seconds, qualified second at the Winernationals last year. Tony Schumacher led the Top Fuel class on Thursday with a run of 4.513-seconds. Qualifying continues on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (PT).
“It was a good first day baseline run,” Fuller said. “We got down the track and that’s important. We got behind the eight ball here last fall and we wanted to make a solid run on Thursday. This is a 4.40 car and we should run 4.40s before the weekend is out.”
