POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2008) – Rod Fuller qualified his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster in the No. 10 position Saturday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with a weekend-best pass of 4.539-seconds.
The six-time NHRA Top Fuel winner, who narrowly missed earning the Top Fuel championship last year, posted his best run of the weekend on Friday afternoon using a Rob Flynn tune-up to clock a pass of 4.539 seconds at 327.51 mph. He also drove to an opening run of 4.558 seconds on Thursday. Fuller’s CAT-backed rail lost traction on both attempts on Saturday.
“We’ve had some adversity this weekend,” Fuller said. “We tried to make our car more consistent. Maybe we have to ask ourselves why we’d change a fast car? I have all the confidence in my crew that they’ll make the changes and we’ll go some rounds and contend to win this race.”
Fuller will face off against No. 7 qualifier David Grubnic when Top Fuel eliminations begin at 11 a.m. (PT) at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona . Fuller’s teammate Antron Brown earned the pole this weekend with a run of 4.495-seconds.
