From four lanes, to three lanes?

Can someone explain to me, what happened to the track during qual.. When I saw the chunks coming off the track, I thought, it's down to three lanes of racing. I gotta give n.h.r.a a tip of the hat for patching that mess. I was pretty sure it was'nt gonna stick. I don't remember seeing a concrete track come apart like that before. I realize there are some hellacious forces coming into play. Is there one particular reason for this to have happened? And is this epoxy they are useing, all they can do to fix the problem? Man, what a crazy day of qualifying. Scary , to say the least. The guys earned their money yesterday.

From the way they played it. It was just so sticky the cars were ripping it up.

They should have used a bit more of something on lane 2. That lane was suspect off and on most of the day.
