Forest Lucas in Fortune Magazine

The one thing that floored me is that Forrest is 70!!! He certainly doesn't look it.

Great article.....thanks for posting!

Funny you should mention that.
Each time I saw him on ESPN3 Sunday, I thought to myself, "I think Forest had 'some work' done.";)

PS: NOTHING at all wrong with that if he did.

Well if he did, at least he didn't use the butcher that Bernstein and Jerry Jones did.

LOL!!! I just about spit 7up all over my keyboard. I remember right after KB's "alterations" I cringed, thinking "how on earth can anyone think they look better doing that to themselves?" I'll take showing my age over looking surprised all the time any day...

No secret to his sucess, he follwed the golden rule and added at bit of honest hard work. We met when he hosted a dinner party at the 50th US Nationals, he and his wife just happen to sit at our table and chatted over dinner. He was most intested in the personal interests of the guests at the table and only at the end did most know who he was, when Bruce Litton asked him to stand so everybody could thank him for the evening. We are fortunate in the drag racing business to have many othera like Forest actively involved. Without these folks the drag race business would come to a halt, ( are you hearing me NHRA) When I first heard of them I was doing some marketing for a similiar company who though Lucas was be a flash in the pan as we have seen so often. It is good to see that both of them are doing quite well in this tough business climate. You now see Lucas products at all of the major retailers, that is what it takes, ask Coke

I notice one thing in that article tat I feel is really important where he said "Put it all back into the business". That has to be important whether its a business or a race team, the business/team has to have funding otherwise it wont work. I have heard many stories of people losing it all because they spent what their business made on themselves rather then growing the business to the point where it is healthy enough that you can be a bit more comfortable financially.

That's a really great article. I loved the part where he said not one rude person works for him. If you go by their pit area you will definitely find that they are some of the most hospitable people at the track.

Forest's story is an American story.

How many people start out in small businesss and go door-to-door (figuratively speaking) just working-their-as**s off until they make it?
Hey lots of 'em don't make it or they fail (COUNTLESS TIMES) but, they keep coming back.

His story is an inspiration!

Not for nothing but, how many people thought it was a good idea to buy the naming rights for the "Lucas Oil Stadium"? I mean, $120 million over 10 effing years. Forest had the vision and probably "earned back" the entire comittment with just the Super Bowl.

BTW: I thought it was a foolish investment - THAT'S how much I know:o

I also thought that it was a kind of a strange investment. But you're right, millions more people now know of Lucus Oil since the Super Bowl.
