FORCE-BODE TRY BUMP DRAFTING

lesser drivers would have their ass chewed but force gets
away with a 'wardrobe malfunction'? :o

lesser driver would NEVER admit if 'sock' was over eyes that he
was going to 'go for it'

this was really close to being REALLY ugly from a 15x champion
with a sock over his eyes.......(shakin' head in disbelief)

I have to agree , I guess things can happen , but how does a sock slide around once you get your helmet on?? I can't say as I never strapped into a fuel car , but my helmet with a dew rag for cooling on my motorcycle doesn't move around all day when riding ,

I am VERY grateful that my favorite team came out of this unscathed , no one was hurt , but maybe bigger questions should be asked ???

That was pretty stupid of him. I wouldn't drive 30 mph if I couldn't see where I was going, let alone 300 mph.

I think it was complete BS to run...could have been a serious situation. Glad it wasnt..

OMG those pictures just made my heart start pounding.
That's the first I've seen of how close they really were.

Thank God the worst didn't happen, that's my friend in that car and close calls like that make me sick to my stomach.

I'll be honest, Forces comment of "hell I'm going for it" is really rubbing me the wrong way right now.

Put your hand over your eyes to the point where you would "not be able to see the christmas tree", keep in mind the helmet strap prevents you from tipping your head back to get a better view. Now imagine yourself strapped into an 8000 hp race car, would you be willing to stab the throttle? really?
The more I talk about this the more upset I'm getting

I didn't know about this until I watched the broadcast and my first thought was a replay of the Kenny Bernstein/John Force crash from, what was it? Houston?

Glad nothing major happened. He got lucky, so did Bode.

why is it when this type of incident occurs it's always so easy to
swerve into the other lane?, but if the car is hooking/pulling the other way
the driver usually gets out of it and MISSES THE WALL?

I think the only ones qualified to comment on this are licensed funny car drivers. The rest of us can only speculate on what we saw in pictures or on TV. After the crash in Dallas you really think Force would put himself in a position to cause another crash like that? Funny cars crossing the center line after the finish are nothing new.

“The rules say that we have to wear an extra sock,” Force explained. “I’ve never worn one before and as I was staging, I was having trouble breathing. I reached up and pulled it down and pulled it over my eyes. Then I couldn’t see the Christmas tree. I tried to shove it back up and said h*** I’m going for it. Then I got down to the end and it put me in the dark. I could just see cones out of my one eye. Then I saw that kid next to me and I thought we were going to lunch early.”

I believe that ^^^ is a quote from a licensed funny car driver.

Here's another quote, directly to me from a licensed funny car driver,
"I couldn't see anything when Forces parachutes covered my windshield"

I agree 100% bonfire...Its complete BS but because its "JOHN FORCE" everyone thinks its OK.

Watch the JFR fans come out now...Lets hear how you will spin this into a positive situation...

A funny car that is spinning the tires in the lights will launch the direction it's pointed when you lift of the throttle.

Since not many FC drivers will log in here to offer an explaination I can. Years ago at Bakersfield I was running Dennis Taylor in qualifying. As we got to the finish line the rear end of my car stepped out like a sprint car sliding in a turn then started sliding back and forth for the last 200 feet with the nose pointing toward Taylors lane and then the wall several times. I had the steering wheel turned hard which kept it in my lane. When I lifted off the throttle to grab the chutes the rear tires hooked up and it immediately launched me hard into Taylor's lane and I almost hit him.

The momentum of the spinning tires when you lift off the throttle grabs the car and sends it wherever it's pointed no matter where the steering wheel is pointed. That's why you've seen many runs over the years where funny cars almost hit the wall or snap into the other lane after the finish line.

Multiply what happened to me by about 100 times and that's what you get. Bode knows it, and that's why he didn't beat up Force. Force knows it but is offering a light hearted explaination.
