Remember Larry Morgan's you can't fix stupid t-shirt pointing to the NHRA logo?.....they made him stop the sale immediately and to destory or "lose" all remaining product.

And therein lies the trick, Patrick. I well remember the hullabaloo over the "stupid" campaign. That's why you don't violate either copyright or patent.

As memorable as that volley was, it was ill fated from the get-go.

I may've gotten full of myself with jokes re: T.C. and G.L. But parody and comedic license are protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights in the good, ol' US of A.

There are many precedents, including George Carlin, that held up a citizen's right to, for lack of a better term, make fun of those who don't like to be made fun of.

In the end, I'm not trying to slander or libel anyone. I want the old NHRA back. An org that works for its membership; not special interests. And I don't want it run by anyone remotely resembling the motley crew currently screwing things up.

Not too much to ask, is it?

We must not, cannot, settle for mediocrity.

I want you all to know I'm not just playing around with the idea of this movement. I'm dead serious about my commitment to recover the NHRA back to the org that used to care about racers and fans first. Not management weasels or special interests first.

No one, not even the angry PMers, could argue the NHRA is far from being in the best of shape leadership-wise.

And the results? Heck. They speak for themselves. Poor leadership always equals poor results.

As I mentioned, I'm a professional writer. But we need people with a legal background. Folks who understand how to fix what went wrong in the last few years (or more) with the NHRA. And then how to move to fix it.

The bad news: I fell down a fairly long set of stairs and ruptured my patellar tendon and other structures in my left knee. I'm due to have surgery this Tuesday and I'll be in pretty bad shape for another week or two recovering.

I'll try to make it over to NM ... and also check my personal email, but if I'm a little slow in responding ... you'll know why.

We can do this, people. If the dimwits currently installed can muck things up as badly as they have, as easily as they have ... well, then, we smart guys/gals can certainly turn things back around.

First of all Doc I hope you'll be feeling better real soon. As I read through different threads here - and on other boards - there is a groundswell of similar sentiment emerging. I see fixing what the current, ahem, leadership has done as an imperative for our sport. We are the racers (or fans) that make this sport what it is; we can do this! If we don't, we tacitly condone NHRA's despotic leadership. So count me in to help in whatever capacity I am able.

PS. We may want to lose any perceived association with the Occupy movement - they're neither respected nor effective.
