I’ve been to every NHRA national event at firebird since 2001 and probably hundreds of smaller events. This is fantastic news, Firebird will always have a special place in my heart and I’m so glad to see it kind of rise from the ashes after saying goodbye multiple times.

It was hard to tell by the pictures, and the article didn’t mention it, what is the length of the concrete from the starting line down track?
It’s great that Firebird is staying on the NHRA circuit, I’ve got a brother who lives in Phoenix and a sister who spends winters in Phoenix.
So it gives me a great reason to convince my wife we need to go to Firebird for the national event.
But, we are already planning on going to Epping in 2025.
Maybe I can convince her we should go to two races in ‘25.

I think it's fantastic that the track is here for the long term, and being upgraded! Anybody hear anything about the lake next to the track where they ran the drag boat races? It would be cool if that returned as well.

Mark Rebilas just posted photos of the lake almost dried up so apparently I was wrong.
Yea it was legitimately shocking when I aimed my drone at the lake and saw how low it was. With how small drag boat racing has become and how much land the lake takes up, plus the thousands of gallons of water they'd have to pump in daily to keep the lake full, I can totally understand just letting it evaporate away and eventually repurpose the land. Still sad thought..

Amazing pic, sad to see, hope the drag boats can find a way to make a comeback 😎

Let's hope it's for Maintenace.

I was talking to another local person, and, this is PURELY speculation. You know how rumors can be, especially surrounding Firebird. This guy claimed that he heard they were modifying the foot print of the lake to allow I-10 to be widened. I hope that is the case but you just never know with Firebird.

that is sure possible. At one time they wanted to buy that whole section for the road.

The lake was there before the track was built. Was called Firebird Lake & that is how the track got it's name. When Eddie Hill was running drag boats, he crashed on that lake. Motor to the bottom, and they brought it back up & used it in his first (modern) T/F car.

I was at a smaller drift and drag event today at Firebird and the announcer told everyone to head to the stands that overlook the future site of their new concert venue for the awards ceremony. He was talking about the lake stands. Anything’s possible but the lake is getting pretty dry, and I figure he may know more than us regular people.
