What I find interesting (with no inside information) is that liners are legal and used by some in Pro Mod and the Alcohol classes. I know that they are not allowed in PS the rule states "Must be beadlock design." But I wonder why the liners are not allowed?

Alan
Maybe it's time to look into that, if it's still legal in the alcohol classes. HP wise PS is probably close to BB/FC of the 70's

Will put her about 4 rounds outside the top 10. Steep for sure, sending a message most likely. I'm a fan and the team seems to get better when faced with adversity. Maybe this will get them back on track quickly.

It doesn't really matter, as long as she goes to every race, she will make the Countdown and the points reset after Indy. The team just needs to get their stuff together going into the Countdown.

it was a rear tire with liner. each tire had two valve stems. the rulebook didn't say 'no liners', it will now. they had
modified the wheel to accept 2nd valve stem (modification of SFI approved part). pretty sure i have this story straight. someone correct me if i don't.
I'm engineering-dumb - what advantage would a liner provide, and the same for 2 valve stems?

The beadlock design I get - I think that's been around for decades and was a WJ initiated improvement.

Stiffens the sidewall to help deal with tire shake. The downside is that it diminishes the tire's ability to expand, cutting back on trap speed a bit.

Elite claims it's a safer design and on the surface it appears that's correct, but no changes in that area can be made without NHRA approval even if they're safer and don't provide an unfair advantage. They have to go through the process.

What I don't understand is that Elite's cars may be down a bit on power due to the change back to VP fuel but they've never had out-of-the-gate problems other than you'd normally see. This season, slow 60 foots, slow RTs and tire shake are the norm with Erica's car, not the exception. She didn't suddenly turn into a poor driver. #10 in points, now #14 with the penalty. Some say it's on account of the absence of CC Mark Ingersoll. Maybe it is.

that's interesting, thanks for explaining it.

I thought Ingersoll has been back now for awhile. Is that not correct?

This pretty much rules out any changes made to a vehicle without pre-approval from NHRA. The 2025 NHRA Rulebook clearly states that “…unless optional performance equipment or performance-related modification is specifically permitted by this Rulebook, it is prohibited. Aka, cookie cutter Camaro. No more reading between the lines.

It has said that for probably close to a decade now… nothing new.

Great question – if they can handle the stresses of a Pro Mod car, it’s logical that it would work in Pro Stock. Seems that it would only improve racing, as well as safety.
