Eaton Team Ready To Battle for $51,000 Knoll Gas – Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout Title and More

August 1, 2006 -- Elma, NY – The 25th Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals is one of the most significant races of the IHRA season. Not only does the event held at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan mark the half way point of the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series season it is also the host of the second annual Knoll Gas – Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout.

The Knoll Gas – Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout consists of the top eight average qualifiers from the preceding races. The winner of the $51,000 Knoll Gas – Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout Title will receive $20,000; the runner-up will earn $9,000. The semi-finalists will pocket $2,500 and the quarter-finalists net $1,500. The shootout will be run Saturday August 5th during regular qualifying. Each teams first qualifying attempt on Friday will set the baseline for Saturday’s eliminations. Runs made during the shootout eliminations on Saturday will also count towards qualifying for the main event, The Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals.

Eaton/Aeroquip Sponsored Mike Janis qualified in the number two position for the shootout just 45 points out of the top spot. Janis will square off with the number five qualifier, Quain Stott, in round one. Other competitors on the same side of the eliminations ladder as Janis include the nitrous equipped machine of Jim Halsey and the Jim Oddy prepared entry driven by Steve Bareman.

Another interesting point about the Northern Nationals is that the last three Pro Modified winners of this event have gone on to capture the series title in the corresponding year, Mike Castellana in 2005, Mike Janis in 2004, and Mitch Stott in 2003. Mike Janis and his team are hoping to continue that trend. Janis, who enters the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals fourth in points, is still riding high after his win in Milan and is looking for a strong mid-season charge.

“Our program seems to excel right around mid season. I can’t put my finger on it, but we always seem to make our charge right around now and this year is looking to be no different. Our car is working great, our engine program is ahead of the game and moral at the shop is real high right now. If we are able to take both Milan and Martin I think we’ll have a good shot at the guys ahead of us,” said Janis.
