Eaton gears up to host Second Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO (August 9, 2007) – When Eaton (electrical group Canada) hosts a customer loyalty and appreciation event, the global leader in electrical control, power distribution, industrial automation products, power quality products and services makes sure everyone invited goes home happy.

There will be 600 invited Eaton customers, distributors, and employees present to witness exciting Pro Modified drag racing action at the legendary Sanair drag strip August 18, as Eaton presents the Second Annual PMRA Challenge.

“Our distributor partners and customers were extremely pleased that Eaton, in co-operation with the PMRA, was able to bring Pro Mod racing back to this fabled race track. Hosting this event last year was a terrific way for us to reward those who remain loyal to the Eaton brand of products,” said Paul Tlustos, Marketing Communications Manager, Eaton (Canada). “It was an outstanding day of racing for our guests, and everyone was thrilled to watch these 200-mph plus doorslammers put on a terrific show. For pure entertainment value, the Eaton PMRA Challenge certainly lived up to its billing.”

Situated just outside of St-Pie, Quebec, the Sanair track is just south of Montreal. This year’s race will be the fourth on the 2007 PMRA Tour.

“Having the Eaton people involved with this event is a terrific boost for the PMRA,” stated Director of Operations Bruce F. Mehlenbacher. “Our goal is to present the best in Pro Modified drag racing action, and Eaton once again has stepped up to the plate in getting involved, and we are proud to be associated with them.”

Mehlenbacher also said that in the previous 12 PMRA events, each race has had a different winner, which makes for exciting racing. Presently Ike Maier of Tottenham, ON leads the points, with Matt Guenther of Livonia, NY, who won the recent Lancaster round, in second spot. Scott Wildgust of Stratford, ON is third, Bruce Boland of Hamilton, ON, is fourth, and Joe Lilienthal of Kenmore, NY, rounds out the top five.

Qualifying for the Second Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge presented by Eaton will begin Saturday afternoon with the eight quickest teams returning for the final eliminations under the lights on Saturday night at Sanair in St-Pie, Quebec on August 18.

Now in its third year of operation, The Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) has enjoyed strong fan popularity and will present some of the best in Pro Modified racing for 2007.

The PMRA will travel to several drag strips in 2007, including two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park, Lancaster Raceway Park in New York State, Sanair in Quebec, and the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.

In 2006, the tour was a great success, and during the past two seasons of the PMRA, each event finished with a different winner. Joe Boniferro and Kasey Janzen tied in points last year and were crowned co-champions over the other Ontario, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania teams. Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, a division of Ashland Inc., Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated will sponsor the PMRA point series in 2007.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, started late in 2004 and is entering its third year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization, with technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and volatile classes, offering a diverse group of racecars with different types of 2,000-horsepower engines. Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
