For the second week in a row, Duane Shields and the PEAK A/Fuel Dragster team were back at their home track, Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the final Lucas Oil Regional event of the year. “Every season this race brings out the best cars in the country so just qualifying for this event is an accomplishment" Duane said. The PEAK Team qualified sixth with a very respectable 5.27 at 270 MPH.
In round one, Duane faced newly crowd Champion Joey Severance. At the hit, Duane was out in front of Severance with an .043 reaction time to Severance's .061. To compound problems for the Champ, Duane was on a clean pass while Severance lost traction and smoked the tires. Duane stopped the clock with a sizzling 5.26 at 273 MPH to advance to the semi finals.
In the semis, Duane took on another top Northwest competitor, Shawn Cowie. As the lights came down it was Duane out first again with an .066 to Cowie’s slower 0.109. However, Cowie was able to narrow the gap and get around the blue PEAK Dragster as Duane was unable to match his performance from the previous round. Cowie recorded a 5.29 at 277 MPH to Duane’s valiant 5.35 at 269 MPH. “Overall it was a decent weekend, the car ran good in qualifying and we won a round and lost a close round” Duane surmised.
Next, the team moves on to Pomona for the Auto Club NHRA Finals. “There won’t be any points for us at Pomona as we've claimed all of our races for the year, we’re just competing to give PEAK some good exposure and to be sure the team stays tight for the upcoming 2019 season” Duane said.
