Duane Shields Exits Early at Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals (1 Viewer)

Duane Shields and the PEAK A/Fuel dragster team had a respectable showing at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, MN but the weekend ended too early with a narrow loss in the opening round.

Duane qualified fourth with a solid 5.28 at 273 MPH which matched him up with the reining national champion Joey Severance who qualified eleventh with a 5.36 at 268 MPH. As the lights came down on the tree, Severance got the starting line advantage by just a smidgen with an .047 to Duane's close .053.

As the the two dragsters blasted down track, Severance had less than a car length lead while Duane quickly closed the gap near the finish line. But it was Severance who captured the win light with a 5.30 at 271 MPH to Duane's valiant 5.32 at 273 MPH.

The PEAK Team will now prepare for the biggest NHRA national event of the year, the Chevrolet NHRA US Nationals, in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend. The entire race team would like to recognize PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK Spark Plugs, GRP Connecting Rods, Brad Anderson Enterprises, Hot Wheels Car Care Products, SRI and Clean Boost for their valued support.
