LAS VEGAS - After making steady progress at each event this year, second-year NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis De Joria and the Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing team are looking to have a break out weekend during this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals at 'The Strip' at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With team sponsor Tequila Patrón based in Las Vegas, De Joria hopes to have a strong outing in her sponsor's back yard.
De Joria, the daughter of Patrón Spirits Co., and Paul Mitchell Hair Care Products founder John Paul De Joria, is optimistic after arguably the best outing of her young career two weeks ago at the O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston.
"We're pretty pumped after the progress we made in Houston," said De Joria. "We got the car back into the 5.70's, so that's a big step in the right direction for us. Jack O'Bannon has given me a great racecar and team to learn from. Bob DeVour [Team Crew Chief] has been so great to work with. I think we're all looking forward to getting back on the track this weekend."
"We're going to have a lot of people from Tequila Patrón at the track," De Joria continued. "We're even going to have a film crew out following us around, so it's going to be wild. Hopefully we can build on what we did in Houston here in Vegas."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday afternoon and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
