WOODBURN, Ore. - Just one week after having the best outing of her young career, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car rookie Alexis De Joria and the Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing team will head into Woodburn, Ore., for this weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event there. De Joria qualified her 2007 Dodge Charger third in the field last weekend, and hopes to build on that strong performance in Woodburn.
De Joria, 29, of Venice, Calif., is excited about the recent performance of her Randy Anderson tuned hot rod. The daughter of Patrón Spirits Company and Paul Mitchell Hair Care Products founder, John Paul De Joria, hopes pre race testing on Thursday will help build the momentum from last weekend.
"I think part of the reason why we did well last weekend was that we made test laps on Thursday," said De Joria. "We plan to do the same this weekend. I think it helps everybody on the team. It gives me a few runs to practice, it gives Randy extra runs to tune the car and the crew is able to get reps before the race actually begins."
"They say that this track is better than what we raced on last weekend," De Joria continued. "There should be more good cars than last weekend, so it will be a fun race. It's such a thrill to compete against the caliber of racers out here. My brother and his family live out here, so hopefully we can have another good weekend for them and make a good showing for Tequila Patrón."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
