MEDFORD, Ore. - Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis De Joria and the Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing team are hoping to have a breakout event during this weekend's NHRA Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Champion Raceway in Medford, Ore. Over the past three weeks, the team returned to their headquarters in Ontario, Calif., and have been working long hours in hopes of making a strong showing at this weekend's event.
De Joria, 29, of Venice, Calif., has moved the team's cockpit simulator from the race shop to her personal garage to spend extra hours getting her routine perfected.
"I've been practicing a lot in our simulator," said De Joria. "Any extra time I get, I'm in the seat practicing. I think we're all just looking forward to this weekend and getting another shot to prove ourselves. School is very much in session this weekend. I just hope to learn from the weekend, improve my driving and make some clean laps down the track. I have all the confidence in the world in this Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing team. Once we get a handle on what this new Brad Hadman Dodge Charger wants, I'm excited to see what Randy [Anderson - Crew Chief] and the guys can do."
"My brother lives here in Oregon, so I'm looking forward to getting to race with him there," De Joria added.
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
