Alexis DeJoria Ready to Put Houston Race Weekend in the Rearview
BAYTOWN, Texas (April 24, 2022) – Alexis DeJoria qualified the Bandero Premium Tequila Toyota GR Supra sixth to draw No. 11 qualifier Bobby Bode as her first-round opponent on Sunday at the NHRA SpringNationals. Against Bode, the six-time Funny Car winner’s machine started to smoke the tires early into the run. She pedaled it, but her car made a hard turn and slammed into the guard wall. DeJoria wrangled her machine to a safe stop and climbed out under her own power while Bode advanced for the round win.
“What a bummer of a way to lose first round at the last race here in Houston. Went up against Bobby Bode, smoked the tires, pedaled it a couple of times and it got loose, and I was just trying really hard. I saw Bode out of the corner of my eye and I just wanted that round win really badly. We’ve got extra bodies, extra chassis, but that’s Funny Car racing for you. I’m sorry to my guys, they have a lot of work to do to get ready for Charlotte, but we’re a strong team, and we’ll come out swinging next weekend,” said DeJoria, who departs Houston ranked sixth (tied) in the Funny Car standings.
