Countdown to the 2010 PMRA Championship (1 Viewer)

PMRA rookie Derek Hawker showed he was a force to reckon with in 2010, taking second place in the Pro Modified Racing Association Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport.

"We had a great year," noted Hawker, driver of the Hawker Racing 1963 Corvette. "In fact, we had a fantastic year. The car ran well, and we can't wait to get back at it again next year."

The former Top Sportsman driver stepped up into the quick Pro Modified in 2010, and made a fine showing in his first year of PMRA racing, qualifying for all events. His season was comprised of a quarter-final round showing, a pair of semi-finals, a runner-up placing, and a win, which he took during the Canadian Nitro Nationals at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

The Split-Window Corvette is powered by an Alan Johnson 526-cubic inch supercharged engine, tweaked and massaged by Atchison Racing Engines, which also supplied the fuel system. The engine, with a PSI Superchargers 14-71 blower, sits in the frame of a Vanishing Point Race Cars product, and a Lenco three-speed sits behind the engine.

Hawker, who hails from Corbyville, Ontario, has raced for about 14 years. He said few changes are planned for PMRA competition in 2011.

"We'll probably put more overdrive (supercharger) in it," he noted. "There's lots left, and the car rides like a Cadillac."

Scott Sager crew chiefs for the team and other members include Tim Whalen, along with family Corrie, McKenzie and Brittany Hawker. Sponsors include Hawker Construction, Pennzoil and Empey Tire.

"I want to thank my crew and my sponsors," said Hawker. "I wouldn't be doing this without them, they have been a great help to the team."

The PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series winners will be honored at the "Night of Champions" on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, PMRA ~ Pro Modified Racing Association, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its seventh year of operation in 2011.

The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing's most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with 2,500-horsepower-plus engines in supercharged, nitrous-powered, or turbocharged format.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 240 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".

Several of the PMRA events are run in conjunction with the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, offering fans a great show of drag racing.
