Although the Comp Eliminator field was excused from the NHRA national event in Houston this past weekend, the teams certainly weren’t sitting around with nothing to do, as most were prepping for the Jeg’s Cajun SPORTSnationals this weekend in southern Louisiana. And with a Comp Cash Reward bonus of $3000.00 going to this weekend’s winner, competition will certainly be fierce for the winners circle at Pat Joffrion’s fabled No Problem Raceway.
Defending champ Craig Bourgeois would love to go to the well one more time at his home track, but with the Comp Cash Reward bonus money and the forecast of temps in the mid 70’s for the weekend, pulling off a “three-peat” may not be in the cards for the nostalgia dragster driver. Inaugural champ Michael Johnson is scheduled to be back, and with the likes of former Indy champ Raymond Martin, recent Gainesville winner Rodger Brogdon, and drivers like Lee Zane, Peter Biondo, Dan Fletcher and Arnie Martel coming in from the east coast, just surviving round one of eliminations could become a major accomplishment. Then add in young gun Chase Williams, Florida hitter Glenn Treadwell and recent No Problem division race low qualifier Adam Hickey in his B & B Cobalt and you have a Comp Eliminator field that just might end up second to none.
All attending Comp racers are also reminded to be sure to stop by the Steve Kent Services pit area to sign up for the Comp Cash Rewards program to be eligible for the bonus purse that rewards drivers at every step of the eliminations ladder. A meeting has also been scheduled for all Comp drivers and car owners for 11:00 am this Friday to allow for open discussion of items in regards to the Comp category and the Sportsman Racers Advisory Council
The lure of claiming the Jeg’s CAJUNSportsnationals trophy will certainly pull the best to this Sportsman only event on the NHRA tour, and No Problems race fans will be treated to the best the class has to offer. For fans that can’t be in attendance this weekend, be sure to follow along on DragRaceCentral.com to keep up with the round by round action. Look forward to seeing you there!
