CLUTCH RUN IN Q3 MOVES WORSHAM INTO THE SHOW

Del Worsham will race from the No. 12 spot on Sunday, and he can look back on an absolutely pivotal performance during Saturday's first session for giving him the right to fight for the trophy on Sunday. Worsham started the day on the outside of the field (albeit in the 17th spot, only one thousandth of a second behind Tommy Johnson), and by the time he ran in Q3, he had been bumped back even further. 4.809-seconds later, Worsham was not only in the top 16, he was in the No. 8 spot with one session left to run. Feeling confident he'd be solidly in the show, Worsham and his father tuned the CSK red car up, but smoked the tires in the final session. In the end, the final shuffling left him 12th, and he will race Jack Beckman in round one.

"On the first pass, my dad won the argument and I'll give him credit for that," Worsham said. "Most of us wanted to make a more conservative run, like a 4.82 or something, figuring that would get us in and would just set us up for the later session. He wanted to swing for the fences, and he won the debate. Sure enough, it went right down there and we moved all the way up into the top half at the time, which is doing something in the early afternoon.

"Going up there for the final session, we were pretty sure we were safe, because it would've had to have been like a world-record session to knock us out from the 8th spot. So, why not go for it? We loaded it up pretty hard, and were up there to either go to the top or smoke the tires trying. It didn't launch very clean, kind of rattling as it left, but it got out there far enough I thought it was going to make it. It didn't though, and it drove into tire smoke before half-track.

We're in, so we can win, and we'll come here tomorrow trying to win
round one."
