Gainesville, Fl. -- With weather conditions as good as 1200 feet below sea level in the morning hours at Florida’s premier racing facility, Gainesville Raceway, the timing couldn’t have been better for the teams in attendance.
The Peen Rite / Clean Boost Top Alcohol Dragster of Chris Demke and Jerry Maddern was in fact one of the benefactors of those conditions.
With an oversized DMPE MKII injector hat mounted on the dragster for first round of qualifying, Demke led his team to a 5.255 elaspse time that held up through three sessions into first round of eliminations.
“The Gorilla Injector hat received a lot of attention” lamented Demke, “unfortunately, for the second and third qualifier, the dragster pulled the front end and I had to abort both runs.
“Since we were there in honor of Adam’s dad, Walt, we wanted to go back to basics with what we knew and put the original injector back on for eliminations. In the second and third rounds of eliminations, at a race where every round was so tough, we still ran in the mid 5.30’s even though the dragster was shaking and I was having to pedal the throttle each time.
“Prior to the final round, Adam Rhoades made a key tuning correction and the car went straight down the groove for the win. When we were handed the trophy, it was just amazing that we accomplished what we set out to do and that was to dedicate this race with a Win to Adam’s father, Walt Rhoades.”
The Peen Rite / Clean Boost Maddern Racing Top Alcohol Dragster’s next race will be contested in Las Vegas, Nevada at the 12th Annual SummitRacing.com Full Throttle NHRA National Event, April 1 - 3, 2011.
