YPSILANTI, MI (8/15/06) -- After a hugely successful outing with the Foose Design/Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster driven by Doug Kalitta at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event in Las Vegas in April, Chip Foose, world-renowned custom auto builder and TV celebrity, and hand tools industry leader Mac Tools are teaming up once again with Kalitta Motorsports, but this time it will be on two of Team Kalitta's nitro-fueled, 7,000 horsepower race cars at the biggest and most prestigious drag racing event in the world - The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30 - Sept. 4.
Both the 330-mph Doug Kalitta-driven Top Fuel dragster and his cousin Scott Kalitta's Nitro Funny Car ride will be decorated with new and exclusive Chip Foose-designed paint schemes at the "Big Go". Doug, the current POWERade Top Fuel points leader, is excited to race with the special decorations on his race car in Indianapolis. His dragster was adorned with a special Foose/Mac Card scheme in Chicago earlier this year and that race car along with two other specially-themed cars he drove in 2005 made trips to NHRA winner's circles.
<img src="http://gallery.nitromater.com/files/6/5/dkfoosebig.jpg" alt="dkfoosebig" align="left"borders="0"/>"We love running the special paint schemes, especially ones for Chip Foose," Doug, a 41-year old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., said. "We always seem to have good luck with them. Indy is certainly a race that every driver wants to win, so maybe our special scheme there this year will give us a bit of luck and will guide us to our first win there."
Doug, a nine-year drag racing veteran, is a two-time Top Fuel championship points runner-up (2003-2004) and the 1998 Auto Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award winner for rookie excellence. He has 28 NHRA national event wins in 51 final-round appearances.
Doug's cousin Scott Kalitta, a 43-year old resident of Palmetto, Fla., mirrored his teammate's optimism about racing in Indianapolis with his similarly designed Foose/Mac Tools Funny Car entry. "We're hoping that some of Doug's special paint scheme-luck wears off on us too. Indy is such a special place. I've been racing for over 25 years and the desire to get a win at Indy gets stronger every year. My dad (team owner and drag racing icon Connie "the Bounty Hunter" Kalitta) finally got his Indy Wally (trophy) in 1994, and he was 56 years old when he did. He was as determined to win it then as he was the first time he raced there. Indy is the race that every drag racer dreams of winning. Hopefully, this will be our year."
Scott made the switch from Top Fuel to Funny Car this season. Scott has one NHRA national event win in his career in nitro Funny Car in 1989. In Top Fuel, Scott scored two world championships (1994-1995) and 17 NHRA national event wins.
Foose will also serve as the Grand Marshall of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals and will be on hand to give away a new custom designed and built Chip Foose 2006 Ford Mustang on the starting line before the professional classes compete in their final rounds of eliminations.
>From March until July of this year, Mac Tools customers who used their Mac Card to make purchases from their Mac Tools distributors, got one entry per transaction into the Ride to Remember Sweepstakes. Each month a winner will receive a Chip Foose tool box exclusively created by Mac Tools and a trip for four to the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. All five monthly winners are now eligible to win the Foose-designed '06 Mustang when each will be given a key to potentially start the one-of-a-kind ride. The winning key holder will get to take a victory lap down the famed quarter-mile at IRP and then take their new custom Mustang home.
"It's a privilege and an honor to continue to build upon our already successful programs with Chip Foose and Kalitta Motorsports," Roger Spee, Mac Tools director of marketing said. "The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals is the perfect venue for us to do that at the biggest event in the world's most exciting form of motorsports."
In April, Mac Tools and Foose introduced a special line of tools and accessories, including toolboxes, fender covers, and creepers.
Limited edition collectable diecasts of the Foose Design/Mac Tools dragster and the Foose Design/Mac Tools Funny Car will be produced by RC2.
Both race cars will wrapped with specially produced vinyl decals created and applied by PRO CAL Professional Decals.
