Carpenter emerges from Houston with Pro Nitrous win and points lead

(3-5-2007) CHARLOTTE, NC – To say this one was a long time coming would certainly be an understatement.

Doorslammer legend Charles Carpenter fired the opening shot of 2007 by laying claim to his first national event win since 1999, taking the victory and subsequently the points lead in the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League’s Pro Nitrous division at the third annual RacingJunk.com Dragpalooza hosted by Houston Motorsports Park in Houston, TX.

“I wanted to start this season off on the right foot, and I can’t think of any better way to do it than this,” said Carpenter, who took the final round win over Texas’ own Thomas “Slick” Myers. “I can’t put into words how this feels or what it does for our team. We have worked so hard and so long to get to this point. This is just incredible.”

After his 4.08, 180 MPH effort landed him in the 9th qualifying position, Carpenter used consistency and a fortunate circumstance or two to march through eliminations. “In most cases, to win a race you’ve got to have at least one break go your way, and take advantage of it,” Carpenter added. “It seemed like we couldn’t get a break last season, no matter how hard we worked.”

On his way to the final round, Carpenter took out newcomer Jamie Hancock as well as veterans Dennis Radford and Johnny Pilcher. In the final round, Myers ran into problems and was unable to stage his ’63 Corvette due to a blown burst panel. After Carpenter was given the go-ahead for the solo pass, ADRL president Kenny Nowling held the beams in Myers’ lane and when the tree dropped Carpenter drove his unmistakable ’55 Chevy just past the 60-foot marker then clicked it off, rolling to the first win of 2007.

“I have so many people to thank, and there is no way I would be here if it wasn’t for their support,” said Carpenter. “I have to thank my teammates and good friends Pat Doherty and Paul Albino for their support over the last four years. My associate sponsor Custom Autosound has been with me for so long, and I’m thrilled to get this win for them. Kelly Bluebaugh and Deb Woodard from WFO Racing & Machine flew in from Phoenix to assist my son Mike with crew duties this weekend, and their efforts are a big reason why I’m here in the winner’s circle,” Carpenter continued. “This is just a total team effort and I couldn’t be any happier for everyone involved. I have to thank Kenny Nowling for all his efforts as well, and for giving us a great place to race.”

“This win is the culmination of an unbelievable amount of dedication and hard work, and I certainly hope it’s a sign of great things to come for this team,” concluded Carpenter.
