Good to hear but jim heads car is running better lol

It’s not a huge surprise, remember Chad Green’s current operation used to be Blake’s. It’s been updated but that program has a path to it. It started out as a 2nd car for Tim Wilkerson (Danny) and then sold to Brian Stewart, then sold to Blake, and then Chad Green ended up with it after Blake. Danny Wilkerson was crew chief for all 3 of them, as they all were a satellite team of Tim’s. It’s kind of like going back home.

Best of luck to Blake and the team!

Be interesting to hear if Head is going to continue racing. And if so, who the new driver will be. And, if last year's big performance improvements will continue without Blake.
Remember what Roland Leong said -
“Drivers are like spark plugs: You burn one out, you screw in another one.”
I don’t think Jim’s philosophy is much different.
It’s an excellent ride for sure. I’d say the most improved fuel team across the board in 24.

Yes, generally true. But one wonders how all of a sudden did Jim Head's car become such a threat at every race after decades of competing as a mid-pack car (at best), at the same time Blake came on board? Was Blake really just the driver, who didn't provide any input to the tune-up? I don't recall Head's car showing much improvement, for example, with the last driver - Jonnie Linberg (sp).

I do remember when Chad Head was in the car and they had to sub in Jonnie for a race or a few. There was enough of an improvement Jim kept Jonnie in the seat.

There's drivers out there who are capable and will bring the proper amount of financing to occupy the drivers seat. I'm sure he will make a great choice.

Always found that comment interesting seeing that Raland Leong wasn't very good at driving the car himself.

Interesting as Blake still won’t have a full time ride since Chad’s son is going to drive the car some. Per Blake’s comments he must have felt he was “just the driver” for Jim. Given Blake was bringing money, he must want more.

I like how there is now a group (a small group) of younger drivers who have been doing pretty well (Prock, D Wilk, Blake, and Bobby Bode when he races - and I know Prock has done better than “pretty well”!)

Roland only drove his t/f car once at Lions and crashed. He never drove a funny car
It doesn't seem commonly known that, even though Roland had that one bad day at Lions when he got carried away by legging it out to the finish line on his first pass in the new Hawaiian dragster, he was actually quite an accomplished young driver in the gas dragster classes for a few years prior to going over to Top Fuel. According to various sources, it was largley at the insistence of engine builder Keith Black that Roland got out of the seat in favor of a hired driver.

Yes Roland did well in top gas, But it was not at the insistence of Keith Black. It was because he didn't listen when I told him 3 times that he could only make a half pass on his first run. I was a member of the drivers commission that took his licence away for life. much to the delight of his mother.

Hi Larry: Thanks for clarifying that bit of drag racing history from "The man who was there". Sounds like Roland was a pretty typical, cocky, "I know what I'm doing" young man. Too bad he didn't listen to you, as who knows how drag racing history might have changed if he had followed directions that first day and done well as a driver. But it's very unlikely he would have done as well as The Snake, Mike Snively, etc, did driving for him in those early days.

Had Roland continued to be a driver he would not have been able to make so many drivers legdens in drag racing. he was a great owner, tuner and a asset to the history of drag racing. BTW Roland and I remained friends for many many years.

I read somewhere that Ulf Leanders was moving up to nitro next year. Could they possibly find a home with Jim Head? It would be a good learning experience for them.

Brian Lohnes while announcing alcohol qualifying on Thursday, said they were selling their stuff and moving up to nitro racing. Sounded like they were putting their own team together and would maybe make a late season appearance next year. I think the hot rumor is a current pro mod driver moving up and taking the seat of the Head funny car.

pretty sure jim head is on nhra schedule at PIR this afternoon. probably an announcement for '25.
paul songas: thanks for that timeline on CGR operation.
