who drove the cat funny car that ran at denver and seattle before.
I remember a few races were he was tearing the big boys apart.

Robert Schwab was from Australia originally but lived in Utah at the time. I believe he sold the car a couple of years ago.

He might have won Denver if he could have cut a light. He ran like 2 tenths quicker than Cruz in the Semis but had a 3 something light.

The car wasn't sponsored by Caterpillar directly as Robert was a mechanic for the local Caterpillar dealer. Most of his guys were mechanics from the dealership as well. e and his wife put everything they had into it.

I would really like to see Cat sponsor another car like they did with David Powers. It started out as a really unique deal with the Cat dealers sponsoring it as a way to get more mechanics which they sorely needed at the time. Then corporate got interested and it took off.

When the wheels fell off the economy my understanding was David called Cat and said he had to spend more time on his primary business which was construction in the Houston area.

I don't know how the dragster program worked but the NASCAR deal is really intertwined with the dealers. Cat used to make all the reservations for the dealers and had different packages from tickets all the way up to accommodations, driver meet and greet Sunday morning, etc. The cost of sponsoring the car/driver is only a small part so lets say David got a million bucks there would most likely be another $10M in addiditional costs.

Just so you know, each Cat dealership is valued at a minimum of $1B. No joke!
