Carter ready to battle in New England

EPPING, N.H. - Locked in a threeway battle for the IHRA Alcohol Funny Car Championship, Thomas Carter and the Jawbreaker Motorsports team will take the fight to New England Dragway in Epping, N.H., for this weekend's Amalie Oil North American Nationals presented by New England Area Dodge Dealers. Carter enters the event in third place, trailing points leader Mark Thomas by a mere 30 points and second place Rob Atchison by 25.

Carter, who is a practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Victoria, Texas, feels consistency will be the key going down the stretch.

"One of the three of us will walk away with the title," said Carter. "I think it's going to boil down to who stays the most consistent at these last races. We've made it to where we are based on consistency, and that will remain our focus. We're always looking for ways to go quicker, but not at the expense of consistency."

This weekend in Epping, Carter feels the consistency battle starts on the first qualifying run Friday.

"It's very important to make a good first run," stated Carter. "It really sets the tone for the rest of the weekend. If you don't get down the track, you're really behind. We just try to take it one run at a time and get down the track the best we can. We've shown you don't have to be the fastest car out there to win. We just want to stay consistent this weekend, and keep pace if not gain some ground with Thomas and Atchison."

Qualifying begins on Friday for Alcohol Funny Car, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
