(9-11-2008) ROCKINGHAM, NC – Pro Modified pioneer Charles Carpenter has been racing at Rockingham Dragway for over 30 years. He’s always regarded it as his home track, since it’s the closest national event facility to his hometown of Charlotte, NC. He’s seen it packed full of fans for events of all types, but something changed at this same time two years ago. He began to see an over-capacity crowd flow into the legendary track, and mark a historic event in drag racing and ADRL history: Dragstock III.
Two years later, Carpenter spends the weeks prior to the yearly Dragstock event handing out thousands of tickets to fans and friends at his Charlotte-based auto repair center. Carpenter sees it as a unique opportunity for everyone involved.

<P>“I try to get as many people down to Rockingham as I can,” said Carpenter. “Everyone asks me all year when they will be able to come see us race, and I tell them wait until September and come to Dragstock. It is an opportunity for them to not only see us race, but experience an entire event, complete with all types of cars and an electric atmosphere. All at an entry price that can’t be beat.”
With that added excitement and the presence of his friends and family comes added pressure for Carpenter and crew.
“Unfortunately, we’ve never really had success at Rockingham,” Carpenter explained. “I don’t know what it is, but maybe we just try too hard when we get down here. Everyone is here to see me run, and I want to put on the best show possible. Hopefully this will be the year we break through for a win at this track.”
If he were to get a win at “The Rock”, it couldn’t come at a better time. Carpenter is locked in a tight points battle for the eighth and final position in the ADRL Battle for the Belts standings and needs every point possible if he hopes to compete for the Pro Nitrous championship next month in Dallas.
“We’ve got to go rounds,” said Carpenter. “We had a really nice streak going for a couple races, and that first round loss at Norwalk hurt us. We need to get back on track and get this ’55 in the 3-second zone and going rounds for Custom Autosound, Doherty Motorsports, and Buddy’s Automotive Concepts.”
“Buddy Johnson from Buddy’s Automotive Concepts in Bryan, TX has already committed to step up and become our primary sponsor for the ADRL race at Texas Motorplex, so we need to get in that top eight and compete for a championship for him and all our supporters.”
Carpenter is actively seeking primary sponsorship for 2008. For more information about Charles Carpenter Racing and the World’s Fastest ’55 Chevy, or for a copy of the team’s 2008 Marketing Partnership Guide, visit Charles Carpenter Racing.
