Callaway looking to finish year strong in Pomona

POMONA, Calif. - Former NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster Division 4 Champion Lee Callaway and the Skull Shine/Knoll Gas Motorsports team will be looking to finish the year strong during this weekend's Automobile Club of Southern California Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Callaway and Team Owner/Tuner Tom Conway will also be looking for their first national event win together.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, has six divisional wins as a driver, including one this year behind the wheel of Conway's A/Fuel Dragster. He won the Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Championship in 2002 along with second place finishes in 2003, 2005 and this season. Conway is no stranger to success on the national level, who as a driver won 18 national events, two World Championships and eight Division 4 Championships, along with winning last year's World Championship and Division 4 Championship as a car owner/tuner. The pair hopes to end the year strong to gain momentum into the 2007 season.

"We should get back to 'normal' national event conditions this weekend," said Callaway. "The car ran very well in Dallas testing in similar conditions. It's been nice to take a little bit of a break, so I plan on hitting it hard this weekend. We have all the ingredients to win on the national level, we just need to put them together."

"We would really like to cap the season off with a win for our great sponsors Skull Shine, Torco Race Fuels, Casino Queen, Valvoline, NGK and InsideTopAlcohol.com," Callaway added. "I'd also like to get a win for Tom for giving me the opportunity to drive his car."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars and will conclude on Friday. Eliminations begin on Saturday with round one and will conclude on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
