ENNIS, Texas - Former NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway and defending World Champion car owner/tuner Tom Conway will be looking for their first national event win together during this weekend's O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas. Callaway, a Texas resident, would love to put the Skull Shine/ Torco Race Fuels backed A/Fuel Dragster in his first winner's circle in his home state.
Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, hopes the car's recent strong performance can put him in the winner's circle.
"We kind of struggled last weekend in Houston, but it was real humid there," said Callaway. "We won't see that kind of humidity up here, so the car should run real well. Tom really has had the car on a string the past few races. We're all working real hard to make the car a little better every lap. If we can do that, hopefully we can put this Skull Shine and Torco Race Fuels dragster in the winner's circle and get our pictures taken on Sunday."
A lot will be on the line for Callaway and Conway this weekend. Callaway's teammate "Dyno Dave" Heitzman will be taking on Spencer Massey in qualifying, which will serve as the final from last weekend's rained out Houston event. Callaway needs Heitzman to take out Massey to keep his Division 4 title hopes alive.
"We always joke about being 'Shake and Bake' off of Talladega Nights," stated Callaway. "I kid him about being the No. 2 car, and always tell him 'Silver is good.' Well, this weekend I need him to go out and get the gold on Saturday and take out Spencer. Then he'll just have to go back to being content with silver on Sunday."
Qualifying begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday afternoon and will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
