Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, VA once again hosted its annual Coors Funny Car Easter Bash on Easter Sunday. 6 of the fastest East Coast Top Alcohol Funny Cars were in attendance. After the first round of racing it was determined those 2 fastest racers would come back and race for the final round win. Those 2 were none other that Legendary racer Bunny Burkett and her God Son Gary “Lil Bear” Pritchett. When the 2 came to the starting line not one person in the 1,000 plus crowd in the stands was sitting down. After the 2 did simultaneous burnouts it was time to race. As they staged up and the tree dropped Lil Bear got the jump off the starting line and took the WIN!!! The track and the fans were so overwhelmed that it was decided that they would race again. About an hour later the 2 made the turn onto the drag strip once again did side/side burnouts-staged up the tree once again dropped and this time it was Bunny who left first and she took the win!!!! It was a historical day in drag racing history.

This is Bunny Burkett’s 44th year as a drag racer in the NHRA & the IHRA. Bunny was the 1986 IHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car World Champion. Bunny is also the only woman to ever win an NHRA National Event in Top Alcohol Funny Car. Driving her Famed Bunny and the Boys Top Alcohol Funny Car Bunny plans to run full season on match Races on the East Coast and also 3 NHRA Division 1 Lucas Oil Races this year.

Her God Son Gary ‘Lil Bear” Pritchett is only 22 years young and is a Crew Member on Joe Hartleys Top Fuel Team in the NHRA. This is Garys 3rd. year working for a Top Fuel Team in the NHRA. Gary is the son on Gary “Bear” Pritchett the Ring Master of the Bunny and the Boys Team!!

Awesome report there, Kevin!

Should have done one more to finish it off. Sounds like a great time.

Bunny rocks..and stands for what is good about all this.

Rocky did OK. His first pass was his best one of the day. His second pass not so good. I got the opportunity to meet Rocky after the second round. AWESOME guy!!! He has a lot of heart for the sport of drag racing.
