BUCKLEY EARNS NATIONAL SWIMMING TITLE IN MEN’S 1000
PITTSBORO, Ind. (May 24, 2007) – Tim Buckley is accustomed to success. The financial partner to David Powers Motorsports and founder and CEO of Vintage Design, Inc., recently displayed his talent in the swimming pool by winning the Men’s 1000 Freestyle event during the 2007 USMS Short Course Nationals Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
An avid motor sports fan, Buckley has been an accomplished swimmer since his teens. On May 17, 2007, the California native displayed his skill in the pool by swimming the 1000-meter course in 10:56.14 to win his age group (50-54). The event was held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center . Buckley trains for 60 minutes a day, five days a week, swimming 3,500 yards as a member of the Fullerton ( Calif. ) Aquatic Swim Team’s FAST program.
“It was a pretty good race,” Buckley said. “We were very good on the back-half of the race. The last 100 meters was the quickest of the meet. We swam the way we trained for, so it turned out well. I thought we could swim well and get third, so it was a slight upset and we like upsets.
“Hopefully, this is just the first championship that we win this season. The race cars are running well and we’re confident both Rod (Fuller) and Whit (Bazemore) will compete for the Top Fuel championship.”
Buckley first ventured into NHRA drag racing in 1989 when he was involved in Top Fuel champion Gary Ormbsy’s operation. A longtime friend of crew chief Lee Beard, Buckley also has worked with Whit Bazemore and Don Schumacher Racing before joining the David Powers Motorsports camp. He also owned a NASCAR Truck and Winston West Series team from 1997-2003.
Buckley will next compete during the Long Course Meters Nationals, Aug. 10-13, in Woodland , Texas . Powers’ two-car Top Fuel operation of Fuller and Bazemore will next hit the track June 1-3 at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka , Kan. for the 19th annual O’Reilly Summer Nationals. Fuller leads the Top Fuel standings and Bazemore ranks ninth in the Top Fuel division. Bazemore is a two-time winner (1997, ’04) of the Topeka race.
