It is more than just a possibility...
This morning, a Nascar.com article was posted that concerned the fact that the largest shareholder of the Dover, DE track wants the assets put up for sale (possibly to either Bruton Smith's SMI company or Nascar's sister organization ISC).
Buried in the story was the following tidbit that might tie into NHRA racing.
Dover (Motorsports, Inc.) also owns Nationwide Series tracks in Nashville, Memphis and St. Louis, facilities (founder and managing partner of Marathon Partners, a New York-based investment group that is DMI's largest outside shareholder, Mark) Cibelli has been told lose a cumulative $6 million a year. At worst, he wants what he calls the company's "Midwest tracks" sold off. At best, he urges the hiring of an advisor to facilitate a competitive auction that would sell all the company's assets, including the 135,000-seat facility in the Delaware capital.
DMI owns all of Gateway International Raceway, including the drag strip portion of the St. Louis facility. A sale of DMI's assets could lead to some good or some poor outcomes.
In theory, Bruton Smith could gain control of yet another NHRA National event venue. In the reverse, Nascar could indirectly own St. Louis.
The 3rd possibility is DMI's assets could be split and who knows who might end up with the St. Louis drag strip.
It's just another one of those 'things that make you go hmmm....'
