CHANDLER, Ariz. - Round one of eliminations at the Checker Schuck's Kragen National just outside Phoenix Arizona saw Rodger Brogdon run a 6.675 second elapsed time, a time that was the second quickest in the right hand lane for the session and an elapsed time that was the seventh quickest overall of the sixteen cars that ran the first round. But, Pro Stock being the "right place at the right time" type of category that it is saw Brogdon's run come up six thousandths of a second short in a classic dual against teammate and fellow Texan Erica Enders.
For Rodger Brogdon, the weekend still has to be deemed a success. They have assembled a car that is faster than half of the qualified field and are slowly working their way towards being one of the quickest. The team has been able to get the car down track with a consistency this season that has eluded almost everyone in the category. As far as the first round race went today Rodger was satisfied with virtually every aspect of the run, except one. "I was too quick on the 1-2 shift," Rodger explained, "if I had still been in my old Super Mod Comp eliminator car I would have been right on time. That short shift cost us at least a hundredth of a second, and that's the difference that would have put us into the second round." But, Brogdon continued, "It's still all a matter of seat time and that's something we will continue to work on between now and the next race in Gainesville. The one thing I committed to early on was testing. It's something that the top teams do and have done over the years, and to be one of the best you have to work just as hard as they do."
The team and driver will continue to gain experience with test sessions scheduled over the next couple of weeks before heading for the next stop on the NHRA POWERade tour, the AC Delco Gatornationals that will take place the middle of March in Gainesville Florida. With additional seat time for the driver and on track testing time for the crew, this team is looking forward to continuing their torrid start to the 2007 season. And with sponsorship conversations and negotiations gaining momentum from the teams tremendous start, Gainesville might just be the start of something big for these boys from Texas.
