Now that sponsors are leaving the sport in droves to fund the hillbillies, it is time for NHRA and its teams to raise the personality level of its cars to engage fans and draw money back from NAPcar.

Think about the iconic cars of the past and most had names or some kind of human-like characteristic attached. Like I have said, todays corporate cars leave me cold and I really don't car if they show up or not. I did care if the Bounty Hunter, Stardust or the Wheeler Dealer showed up for a race when I was a kid. I don't think many people will be caring if the US Smokeless Tobacco car shows up for a race.

We have to face the cold hard fact that the stupid monster truck crowd stole a great concept from NHRA and have prospered with it.

NASCRAP loosing sponsors too !
Let alone IRL , everyone loosing sponsors .
New ones will come , life goes on !
Crying about it won't help anything !
Being positive brings positive things.
Not disputing NHRA could do better but so far they refuse to sell to B Smith ?
I wonder why ?
They are going to mess around till Smith goes with IHRA and , Uh not repeatable !

Even the monster truck crowd is starting to fall victim to the corporate image mentality. Some of the trucks are starting to downplay the original name in favor of the corporate sponsor's logo and name.

Or, so I've been told........

Problem is, the idea behind this is that the racers are gonna be able to get out there, race, and put the "names" on the cars without major backing. And, of course, the major backing wants to be the main message on the side of the car and doesn't give a rat's patoot about the car's popular name or image. They're paying good money, lots of it, to get their logo onto the side of the car, and they don't want some stupid "nickname" cluttering up things.

I am all for bringing back the nicknames and the car names , but the problem I notice is that the cars that are able to race still mostly have sponsors so have to satisfy them and the cars that don't have sponsors that could run some cool name or whatever probably can't afford to run the cars without sponsers .

I was watching an interview with Don Garlits a while back on 1320tv where he was saying that he had talked to the Mopar company about how in the old days the sponsors wanted to have there company seen with the name of the car or driver you know they wanted to be seen supporting that person , yet today apparently all the sponsers want is the most advertising for there money .

Its not the NHRA's fault or the Teams fault its the sponsors that want the moving billboards .

My nickname is Mooseman and I will say it now that when I oneday get into drag racing no matter what class I am in that name will be on the car lol .

I saw the jade grenade in 1973. It was badass , and as a thirteen year old, all I cared about was how cool the name sounded. And I used to have some crap cologne back then called jade east I think. I bought that because of the jade grenade.

These guys today just don't think. I 'm glad the Arizona race doesn't have a sponsor. I like the name Arizona Nationals. I know where that is.

I mean shoot, the old spice car could have been the 'spice rocket'

a play on rice rocket get it.

imagination, that 's what lacking in motorsports today. When john force is gone , this sport will have no personality left.

Here it is!!!
