Every year at this time, the high-performance engines of NASCAR, NHRA, and IndyCar snap back to life as a fresh new season of speed and power unfolds at racetracks across the country.
But another four-wheeled series of a different kind is gearing up for another campaign and its goals are not centered on who reaches the finish line the fastest, but rather, who reaches their destination the safest.
B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) will be conducting its first Teen
Pro-Active Driving Course of 2013 this weekend, Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th at zMax Dragway in Concord, NC with morning and afternoon sessions scheduled for both days.
Offered free of charge to young drivers between the ages of 15 and 19 years-old with either a learner’s permit or valid driver’s license and at least 30 hours of driving experience, the Teen
Pro-Active Driving Course teaches teenage motorists greater concentration, confidence, and command behind the wheel through a program of five challenging exercises taught by a team of accomplished, professional instructors.
“This year, we’re going to be pretty busy as our driving school schedule continues to expand,” says Doug Herbert, B.R.A.K.E.S. founder and championship-winning NHRA and IHRA Top Fuel drag racer.
“We enter each year with a feeling of excitement and anticipation, knowing how B.R.A.K.E.S. is helping to make teens better and safer drivers—and that translates into saving the lives of these kids by giving them the kind of skills they just can’t learn anywhere else.”
Registration for this weekend’s sessions is well underway and parents are urged to contact B.R.A.K.E.S. to reserve the remaining slots for their teenage children. Openings are still available for Saturday’s and Sunday’s morning sessions and registration can be completed online at:

or by contacting Martha Walker via email at:

Registration is being accepted right up until 5 PM, Friday, February 22nd.
Further 2013 dates and locations for the Teen Pro-Active Driving Course through April are posted at B.R.A.K.E.S. website, www.putonthebrakes.com/driving-schools/schedule1
“B.R.A.K.E.S. offers our Teen Pro-Active Driving Course absolutely free,” reminds Herbert, who created this non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization in 2008 following a tragic highway accident which killed his two sons, Jon and James, near their North Carolina home.
“There aren’t many proven methods of saving the lives of young drivers out there that don’t cost a cent. We think we’re an unbeatable investment.”
