Bluebaugh Racing’s Team AutoTrader Wins with Precision in Vegas

April 2008 - Kelly Bluebaugh and Team AutoTrader win Prostreet with flawless precision at the Pacific Street Car Associations (PSCA) Las Vegas Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 25-27, 2008. Crew Chief Deborah Woodard said we came to this race with getting back to basics in mind. Simply getting the AutoTrader Monte Carlo to run consistently is just what we needed, exactly what we accomplished, and it paid off. The car has plenty of power to compete and we can step up any time needed and go faster, but repetition is the golden key to success. Bluebaugh and Team Auto Trader qualified 4th of a record 18 competitors with a 6.602 @ 212.73 mph backed by a 6.605 @ 214.52 and continued to average a string of easy 6.60’s through out elimination rounds.

In the final round, Bluebaugh and the AutoTrader team met up with the number one qualifier and new PSCA bad boy John Mihovetz in his turbo powered Accufab Cougar. Mihovetz definitely had the E.T. advantage going into this round said Woodard, but our car had been rock solid consistent. We had a choice; throw some power at the car or make a consistent run showing no mercy for slip ups to Mihovetz. This day precision consistence won the race with the grace of a seasoned pro. .

Prostreet was the last class to run the final round and the track was lined with spectators and competitors alike to watch the AutoTrader Monte Carlo battle against the Accufab Cougar. Mihovetz jumped out taking a slight advantage off the line with a better reaction time and quicker 60 foot, but the race was over by the 330. Mihovetz was out of the groove and had to pedal the car for a mere fraction of a second as Bluebaugh’s no mercy strategy hit the jack pot. Screams rang out as Bluebaugh drove the AutoTrader Monte Carlo perfectly down center track upsetting the Accufab Cougar with a winning 6.608 @ 214.72 mph to Mihovetz’s 6.760 @ 217.63.

Bluebaugh said, I kept waiting for the Cougar to come around me, but it never happened. I got to the end and realized we had done it, we had won the race. Woodard said, it was really our weekend, everything went right as if winning was just in our cards. We caught the tune up right away, despite the fact that Las Vegas offered up some of the trickiest air for tuning a nitrous motor we have ever seen. High head winds also made for less than favorable driving conditions. In round one and three, Bluebaugh took easy wins by red light defaults to Rod Pierce in his 63 Corvette and later to Clint Hairston in his Turbo powered GTO, whom both got caught trying to cut a light to get around the quicker Team AutoTrader. Despite tension at the line, Bluebaugh held study running his own race. In round two, the team ran Dan Vogt in his 63 Corvette winning with a 6.585 @ 214.25 to 6.905 @ 214.55. In the Semi’s, the team caught a bye to the final and the rest is history.
