Bill Stephens

He's doing a fine job. He has been away from the sport for some time so I expect him to knock the rust off this weekend.

Maybe it's not fair to compare to Alan Reinhart but I am surprised by the incorrect info Bill is announcing. Maybe I'm being picky but here are examples:
1. Announced Mike Berry as Q1 top qualifier well after Q1 was finished
2. Mentioned Pro Stock Bike field had 21 cars when 22 had already run. Michael Phillips skipped Q1 but did run Q2.
3. During Funny Car Q4 mentioned that Brittany Force was on the bump for Top Fuel for Sunday. She was on the bump for Q3 but moved up in Q4.

There were other small points like these but these are the ones that come to mind.

I was also at Pomona and Phoenix. There is a big gap right now between Alan and Bill. And I'm not commenting on style, just accuracy. I'll give Bill time on the style issue.

Given the huge upgrade of Dave Rieff from Paul Page, I'll say that overall the changes this year are definitely positive, especially considering no one could replace Bob Frey!

Sure do miss Bob Frey up there... Stephens has some work to do before he is near a frey/reinhart level. Like Brian said, many miniscule mistakes over the course of the days.

***** ***** *****!!!
I'd bet that any one of us would make the same kind of mistakes!!!
Give it a rest and give Bill a chance!!! He will do a great job!!!

How come some people have to be sooo nit picky?

Its not meant to be negative, ive watched stephens for years and he does great. He just has HUGE shoes to fill behind Bob Frey. The constant errors need to go bye bye though.

Oops, you made a mistake. You said that I said "Pro Stock Bike had 21 CARS..." I didn't say that. Only kidding. Thanks for the input and opinion to all. Haven't done national event PA announcing since 1999. Not an excuse for mistakes and I'm still getting my chops back. Lots of things have changed, some things are the same. Will I make more mistakes? Probably. Everyone in this line of work will stumble from time to time. But it's great to be back.

When I turned it on today, it felt like listening to an old friend. I've loved Bill on What's My Car Worth, and several other shows. He's great.

I too noticed him knocking the rust off, but in all he was great.

NICE!!! James edits his posts and my post is removed!!!
No wonder the pros ignore this board!!!

Edited to add an 's'.

Bill, thanks for responding. I really enjoyed the series you did several years ago on races from the past. I wish you and the rest of the guys a lot of success. I don't envy your task-I wouldn't want to be the one to follow in Bob's shoes!

Overall I thought Bill did a nice job, although there were some factual mistakes like saying "Jeff Arend won his first Natiional Event while driving the DHL car".

Bill is a very accomplished announcer, he'll do just fine. Give him a break. Doesn't anyone perform up to the standards of the mater group? If you've never made a simple mistake, then by all means cast the first stone!!Bill has the voice, delivery and knowledge of the sport. he is a perfect fit.

As one who has done track announcing for both Circletrack and Local Drag racing, I can say it is much harder than it looks!
