BIG WEEKEND FOR ROWE RACING IN ATLANTA

(4-28-2008) ATLANTA, GA – Danny Rowe and crew enjoyed a strong semifinal showing at Atlanta Dragway to cap an incredible weekend for the Laguna Hills, California-based race team who broke into the elusive five-second zone in the team’s Hottinger Group ’67 Chevy Camaro.

Moving up from 10th to 6th in the JEGS ProMod Challenge championship points, Rowe is ecstatic with the weekend’s happenings. “Wow, what a weekend,” Rowe said. “The way this team has stuck together, the level of dedication they have and the way we translated that energy into success on the race track this weekend is nothing short of phenomenal. Getting that first five-second pass under our belts was very important, too, because it’s obvious where this class is headed performance wise.”

Rowe, who actually made two runs in the “fives” this weekend, entered into the exclusive club during Friday night qualifying with a 5.993 at 236.09mph and then flexed the Jimmy Rector horsepower muscles under the hood of his Camaro with a stout 5.981 at 241.15mph in the second round of racing.

The tides would turn, though, as the Hottinger Group ’67 Camaro went into severe tire-shake just off the starting line in the semi-final round of action at the NHRA Southern Nationals. Rowe, who fell to eventually event winner Eddie Ware, maintained a high five-second to low 6.0-second pace all weekend which leaves the team with a strong confidence going into St. Louis.

“Losing to Eddie [Ware] in the semis was unfortunate, but that’s racing,” said Rowe. “We’ll be going to St. Louis more focused than ever before. Bringing a second car into the mix this year and the necessary people it takes to run two of these cars has required a little time to get comfortable, but I think we’ve come together nicely and have a shot at this JEGS ProMod Challenge Championship.”

Rowe’s teammate, Kirk Kuhns earned the 7th qualifying spot with a 6.04 at 229.98mph, but wasn’t able to get past round-one of competition in Atlanta. “We were glad to get in top half of the field, but there aren’t any sitting ducks in this JEGS ProMod Challenge field,” said Kuhns, driver of the EMBEE Performance ’41 Willys. “Anytime you race Jay Payne you’ve got to be on your game. He got the jump on me off the starting line and I just couldn’t catch up. The days of 6-teens have long passed us by and it’s going to take consistent low 6.0’s and 5.90s to play ball anymore. We’ve got a 6.0 setting on this EMBEE Performance hot rod, we just missed the mark here in Georgia. St. Louis, will be a different story.”

The 12th annual O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals begin this coming Friday in Madison, Ill., which is just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis.
