BERNSTEIN HOPES TO DEFEND LAST YEAR’S VICTORY AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS TO ACCUMULATE POINTS TOWARD CHAMPIONSHIP

KENT, Wash. – Budweiser/Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Brandon Bernstein hopes to defend last year’s victory at Pacific Raceways when he competes in the Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals July 21-23.

“Our team has been fortunate to celebrate victories every year since my 2003 rookie season,” said Bernstein. “Last year we won twice, St. Louis and Seattle. At the halfway point this season, we were third in point standings, we’ve been to the final round four times and have won twice. Seattle is the middle event of the three-race West Coast Swing, and if we can do well in these three races, we have a bona fide chance at the POWERade championship title. It would be awesome to be in the dogfight at the end.

“We have a team that’s very capable. Tim (Richards, crew chief) knows what it’s like to handle the pressure of a championship run, having won five championships as a crew chief for Joe Amato, and one for my dad the first year he joined our team in 2001. Tim and his wife Kim have a wealth of experience to draw upon and we’re very lucky in that regard.

“We need to stay focused and go rounds.

“Before the action starts on the racetrack, however, we’re going to participate in our annual motorcycle ride and Burnout Party Thursday evening (July 20) with two of our local sponsors, Downtown Harley-Davidson and Olympic Eagle Distributing. It’s a great way to relax before we get down to the business of qualifying on Friday.”

Bernstein won the O’Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston in April, the Pontiac Performance Nationals in Columbus, Oh.in May and was runner-up at the O’Reilly Summernationals in Topeka in May and the O’Reilly Midwest Nationals in St. Louis in June. He has 10 career victories and three runner-up finishes heading into the West Coast Swing.

Fans, motorcycle and car club members are invited to join Brandon Bernstein for the annual Bernstein Run and Burnout Party Thursday, July 20 in Seattle. Bernstein will be signing autographs at Downtown Harley-Davidson, 13002 48th Ave. S., Tukwila, from 3 – 5 p.m. Then all riders will mount up for the run over to BB Magraw’s, 440 16th NE in Auburn. At BB’s the Car Toys “Aftershock” stage will be showcasing live local music, while fans and riders enter to win prizes. A silent auction will be held to benefit Boyers Children’s Clinic. The “Street Team” from Seattle radio station KISW, 99.9 FM, will be at BB’s for the party. Listen to KISW for further details or call Downtown Harley-Davidson, 206-243-5000 or BB Magraws, 253-804-5588. There is no charge to ride. Come join the fun!

Nitro (Top Fuel and Funny Car) qualifying begins Friday, July 21 at 4 p.m. with a second session at 6:30 p.m. There are two qualifying rounds Saturday, noon and 3 p.m., with final eliminations scheduled to begin Sunday at 11 a.m.
