ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 23, 2007) - Jack Beckman drove the Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car into the No. 8 slot during qualifying for the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J., recording his quickest 4.789-second pass at 325.30 mph in the Friday night session.
His other laps included a 4.919/309.27, a 5.160/222.47 and a 4.947/309.20.
"We're in the top half, which is awesome," said Beckman, who is ninth in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car points and is looking to move up into the top eight for the Countdown to the Championship. "It does give us first-round lane choice, although, especially in the first round, it doesn't seem to make a big difference at this track.
"Most important is that we're in, we're gaining points, and this is where we make the move to get into the Countdown. It's completely in our hands.
"We're racing the No. 8 car (in the Countdown points) first round tomorrow. If we win that, it will give us a good shot to be in the Countdown position by the end of this race. It also will depend on what Cruz Pedregon, 10th in points, does as well.
"So, we really have a golden opportunity tomorrow and it's going to be hot. I like our tune-up for hot weather. I've said it before. I like our chances."
Beckman faces Del Worsham in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday. Cruz Pedregon is the No. 11 qualifier and will meet up with his brother Tony.
