This kid gained a whole bunch of fans this year, me included. I think we are seeing a legend in the making. Between wrenching on his own car, taking time for photos with fans on the way to the lanes for the final round in epping that I witnessed (when most drivers would be tucked away in the tow rig) and owning up to his own driving mistakes this kid has it

Austin is no "kid". He is 29 years old. He is a grown man. If he was 17, I'd buy in to calling him a "kid". Not at 29 years old.

To put this in a little perspective, in the early 1960's at places like Lions Drag Strip, most of the young men racing then really were almost kids, being in their late teens and early 20's. If you were as "old" as 29, you would have been considered almost an old man.

It's not meant as disrespect. Force calls Austin a 'kid' all the time and if you're 75, most everyone else is a 'kid'.

At the time of Darrell Gwynn's accident he was 28, and he also was referred to as that KID as many other younger drivers in all sorts of sports.

Prock is indeed a kid in Funny Car years. Have you seen the age of his peers?
no kidding. i had to find out. the average age of the 2024 top 10 FC finishers is 46.3, which includes austin's 29. blake and dwilk are closest at 36, then into 40's
with hagan, jr, and tasca barely still in 40's., chad, ron, and fast jack do the 50's, and cruzer @ 61

Austin simply HAS to say in that car, with his family tuning. I don't know what John and/or Robert will do. What about Fast Jack?

It's already been announced that he will:

i remember the 'john force racing traveling road show' a bunch of years back. setup at nhra events and non-nhra events. THE NEXT GENERATION john would always preach.
all these years later we've now watched 3 daughters and austin combine for numerous nhra wallys and three championships.
