He made more bad runs than good it seems, Paul. But it's cool. Austin isn't going anywhere..he'll always be the man.
I believe they were playing much times..experimenting. JMO

im sure they were doing thier share of testing, but how can anyone question austins year- 16 championships, hundreds of wins, thousands of round wins. hes one of the best of all time, someone drank thier haterade today i see.

The Term FAN is short for Fanatic... To say you are a team's #1 Fan is scary on many levels, so much so, it seems that the slightest question about that team becomes a personal attack.
Now having said that, I am a hardcore follower of The AAA car and have been since Teach drove it. I do not take criticism of the team personal, any more than I took criticism of The Angels personal growing up.
I have been a 'follower' of Austin Coil since the late '60s. He is the main reason I've ever paid attention to John. I do believe that the 'combo' went down a road that looked promising, yet didn't pan out in the long run. All that is need right now, during the 'off season' is a set of fresh eyes to get back to a baseline. Coil didn't become stupid, he did not wake up one morning and forget 40 plus years of setting up a fuel car.
But then, it could just be a loose nut holding the butterflies... j/k Papa John

Could it be politics? Yea politics, if one team keeps winning, and winning and winning championships, doesn't it get alittle boring? Like eating the same thing night after night after night after night. Is the "Force Juggernaut" smart enough to realize this? I think so, along with some of the other teams like the "DSR Juggernaut". Do you think there are secret closed door meetings about how to keep and build this great sport of ours? To be able to bring in new fans every race, new sponsors every year? It would surprise me more if there are not. I want to see our sport of drag racing be more popular than nascar, nfl, mlb, nba and so on. I am sure some of you, maybe all of you may think I am alittle crazy after all these years, but I still think stranger things have happened in drag racing. Some things we may never know, No Quarter taken, NONE expected! Please stay safe out there!

No offense, Richard..but that's just silly.
If I had an edge..I'm putting my boot to every team's throat out there..I ain't slackin and they can just test to catch my as$!! Figure out what I have better! I don't see politics playing into this at all. There is nothing to gain from losing (except a spot in the countdown and a championship..hehe)

Secret meetings? Come on now... On a serious note, as Bruce stated, the very best in the sport have all had ups and downs. That's racing, especially with finicky machines like fuel cars. Also consider, Coil, like Armstrong, was able to distance himself from the pack for years with his ingenuity, but because so many limitations have been put on the cars over the years, it's pretty hard to have a real hammer like in the old days.

One thing I DID notice is that after his health problem, and the return from his stay at the hospital, he no longer does the final prep of the car at the line, and no longer gets John up to the first beam, preferring instead, apparently, to stand back with the rest of the crew.

1) Health. A health scare has a way of changing priorities in a heartbeat.
20 Testing ban. Rule changes affect teams differently. A team that tests a great deal is going to be hit hard by this change.
3) Age. It is easy to have a tendancy to lose your edge as you get older. Especially when you combine it with a health scare.
4) Small sweet spot. With these cars, you don't have to be very far off to have a bad year.
Just something to think about................

commenting how 'she just won't run'.........just like AAA 'just wouldn't run'.
their cars run when they need to.
