Arizona Nationals Dropped (1 Viewer)

I’m kind of surprised they pulled the plug on it so soon. A lot could and probably will change between now and March. With the race being mid April I would have waited to cancel it. I was looking forward to Vegas and Phoenix back to back.

Must be more to this story. For example, at the Sharks-Coyotes game in Phoenix last night there were fans in the stands. Limited Capacity. And the race in April is canceled now? Don't know what the rest of the story is but doubt it is only covid related, even though covid is bad in Arizona currently.

I'll bet a dollar that the Winternationals won't happen either...
I’m pretty sure it won’t happen either. i do wonder if NHRA would consider doing back to back races in Vegas? If they lose both Pomona and Phoenix they really do need another west coast race. Attendance would suffer but they might have limited amount of spectators as it is.

I got an e mail from NHRA about this. My thoughts are that Wild Horse is concerned about the covid & that is one reason. The tribe controls the track, so.... At least there is a Div 7 race at Tucson Feb 27-28. Would not be surprised if Pomona doesn't happen. Vegas looks good for West Coast races. My 2 cents.

NHRA will need to find some place to go. I doubt Pomona 1 will happen so that will leave 2 early dates to fill. The boys in Glendora may be ready to make a quick deal on Atlanta to get some cash before this is over.

I am disappointed but not entirely shocked with everything that is going on, however the timing is weird. Over three months away yet being cancelled now. There are several events going on with limited spectators over the next few months. The Phoenix Open will have a cap of 5,000 at the end of the month (normally 150-200k show up each day) NASCAR/PIR just announced last week limited attendance again for the March race (I think it was 10,000 in November) even the Coyotes are letting I think 2,500 people in (which is their normal crowd size) into the arena each game. I am bad at estimating crowd sizes but I would imagine at least 10,000 people show up to the nationals each day. My theory to what happened is the tribe knows they will have to enforce limited capacity for the race mix that with only two days of pro racing and knowing how they operate, if they cant make close to the profit they are used to or expect they would rather not run it, which is exactly what they ended up doing.

Just the Gila River Reservation double standard !
Not really a double standard since this decision probably comes down to money. Nearly every decision made by GRIC whether within the casino or other business comes down to a decision with the bottom line the single most important priority. I watched it happen countless times in the two years I worked in one of their casinos.

Wild Horse made $$ in 2020 from the nat'l race, but it was almost closed after that, except for some small events. Without the national event, very little $ coming in, so why run the track? Things would have to drastically change for a major event to be held there again. Arghhh, don't need another track to sit idle or even go away.

I wonder why the Barrett-Jackson auction is allowed to be held in March. It’s an enclosed facility.
The race is outdoors.

I get it Zed, Just that events had to be cancelled or not scheduled at all due to heavy rules and restrictions which made it unaffordable to run an event there. Just frustrating !

I'm sure cancelling it so early was to give enough time to move to another track. Really sad times were living in

Seems a bit odd that Arizona was cancelled while I would think Pomona is even less likely to happen given the Covid situation in LA. My daughter is a nurse in LA and indicated the situation is very bad. And she is due to give birth to her first this coming Saturday! What a time to give birth...
