After two full sessions of qualifying on Saturday, the only changes on the qualifying sheet were the moves Gary Scelzi and Gary Densham made during the final session, easing up from outside the field into 15th and 16th spots respectively. Jeff Arend joined the majority by failing to make a full lap under the New Jersey sun, and he will race out of the same 13th spot he claimed on Friday night. He will race Scott Kalitta in round one.
"It was pretty tricky out there today, and a lot of teams were struggling, but we were disappointed in our last lap," Arend said. "We wanted to make it A to B on that last one, but something was off with the car and it actually shook on a hot race track. We'll go through all the data and find out what happened, and we'll make the fixes we have to make. We know we have a good race car, we've just been joining the club here, because almost everyone is finding the going a bit tough on this track.
"We'll see what the weather holds for us tomorrow, because if it gets any hotter at all we're going to have real challenge on our hands and you'll see an awful lot of pedaling and tire smoke. On Sunday, for the fans, that can be really exciting, so it's not a bad thing, but we'll just have to be ready to do whatever it takes to get to the finish line tomorrow. When we get there, the object is to be the first one to cross it."
