This has been bugging me for a few weeks now. It seems to me that Doug should get the funny car gig for all 24 and either Hillary,Grubnic or Arend get the dragster for 10 races. Doug was flawless when I saw him drive the car at the 2006 IHRA Motor City Nats. Thoughts?

Terry, (nice name, by the way!) I don't presume to know any real data on the changes in the Kalitta operation, but if I were to guess, my guess would be that Doug, who has a rapidly growing charter business of his own, probably is ok with stepping aside for a year or so, devote more time to his business and family, and give the full time ride opportunity to Jeff. I agree, it would be cool to see Doug, in my mind one of the best if not THE best TF drivers out there, in the family FC, but I'm guessing Doug is probably very much on board with the arrangement as it stands now. (Heck, maybe he'll have a little time to hop in a sprint car at a USAC race every now and then!)

I am sure they discussed it. No one was expecting the bottom to fall out like it did, but they will do everything they can to find some $$$ for everyone.

Remember in Jaws - the 3 guys are out at sea onboard the Orca... Chief Brody is complaining about having to do all the work, throwing chum, while all Hooper has done is steer.....and Quint simply says, "Hooper drives the boat, Chief"?

Well, Jeff drives the funny car.

I like the tag-team concept of 3 drivers sharing the same seat in the dragster though! But that might work out a little better if Grubby wasn't like 7 feet tall with a 28" waist.... and Hillary is like 5 feet tall with maybe a 24 inch waist !
If they can find a way to cram David's knees in there...... and get a couple telephone books for Hillary to sit on.... it might just work!!!

I can see it now... One of those "memory" buttons on the dash of the top fueler, you push it and the seat moves up/back, down/over to adjust the seat, steering, pedals, etc. for each driver.

Jeff is one of the best funny car drivers out there hands down. Just because Doug was flawless during 1 race doesnt mean he should bump Jeff out of the seat. Jeff has won rounds in "outdated" equipment against championship caliber teams due to his driving skills, so dont count Jeff out by any means!

And Jeff is such a class act, had they bumped him from the seat for Doug K, Jeff would have understood.

Class acts all the way around over at Kalitta Motorsports, you won't be able to keep them down for long.

The other thing here that no one seems to be considering is that Connie is still trying to find partners to run the other cars. He obviously already has the funding in place to run the FC with Jeff in the seat.

So why would you move him out, meaning possible contractual changes, to put Doug in the FC when I would believe that Doug in a long car is probably more saleable to a potential sponsor?
