Jeff Arend made two full passes in Norwalk on Friday, capping off the day with a 4.830 under the lights on Friday night. His 4.890 in the first session was good enough for the 4th spot at the time, and his 4.830 during the nightcap positioned him 11th with two sessions left on Saturday.
"We got down the track twice, which is good," Arend said. "The first lap was nice and solid, and just about exactly what we were trying to do. Under the lights, the general idea was to go for something huge, and we all thought we had a enough of a tune-up in it to run a nice mid-4.70, but for some reason the 4.83 was all it wanted to run. It was about as beautiful a 4.83 as you'll ever run, but that's not really what we were after. Tomorrow, it's not supposed to be too hot but the sun will be on the track so, for us, the object is just to run in the top half each session, no matter what that does to our position."
