From Darr Hawthorne's latest DRO column:

A solid, unexpected laugh came in the Sunday broadcast when, with the Snake standing behind him on camera, Paul Page tells us that the legendary Don “the Snake” Prudhomme will be joining us for the first round of funny car… Duhh!

Totally classless and unnecessary.

Who is classless and unnecessary? DRO or PP?

It sounds like an introduction? What was wrong with that.

Thanks for the plug Tony, I agree that Paul Page is a problem, but not really classless, clueless is a little more precise.

The entire DRO column is here in context.

Nothing in this thread makes any sense. I still don't see what the problem is?

I agree, I just wasted 2 minutes of my life that I will not get back reading that article. The writers at DRO just love bashing the NHRA. Thank god we have Comp Plus, because 95% of DRO is a pile of biased BS.

No Darr, I didn't give you a plug, and would never give you a plug, but you probably need it because I'm one of the FEW people that read the column. I regard DRO as the drag racing journalistic equivalent of the National Enquirer. I guess I need to spell it out for you: Your crass Duhh! comment about Paul Page is classless, needless, and UNPROFESSIONAL. It's real easy to sit back and criticize someone from the comfort of your keyboard. Remember, those that can - do; those that can't - write about it.

I'll tell you what was unprofessional in my opinion, the statement Gary Gerould made to John force after his run. It was obviously an attempt to try to rile force.

When asked about John force snake referred to him as," special guy"," the ultimate"," as good as they come"," I am amazed by him"," yes he can win the championship really easy".

Mr. Gerould chose not to pass on any of the above complements, instead in a misleading, and deceptive statement he told force, " snake said he used to beat you like a drum in the early days". Only half the statement.

What happened was, Mike Dunn had remarked to snake about what a tough time force had in the beginning and that he started with nothing. Snakes entire reply was, " yeah we used to beat him like a drum" (referring to all drivers not just snake) then he went on to finish the statement by saying, " then he came along and took us all by storm – he's awesome".

To me that was way out of line on Mr. Gerould part, completely uncalled for.

Turned out well for Force I think, his "beat him at least once" comment actually gave me a chuckle.

John is the master of taking a situation like that and making it funny.

John and The Snake aren't gonna let something like what Gary said, get to them. They were both laughing about it and it was a fun moment to see.

who cares what these guys say about each other, it's sure the hell better
than some line of prescribed PC b*llsh#t..........
it might not all sound exactly PC, but when you consider the
raging .4 nielsen rating the show is producing, chances are the only folks
you'll find to talk about the broadcast content is the guy down the street
who was hooked on the sport 30-50 years the same as you.
plus it's good theater; something the broadcasts could use more of.

The points in this thread are not very well supported and sound more like a misunderstanding of how the guys on tv do their job. Yes, pp is clueless, Classless? I can't seem to say that, and I think it's wrong for you to say that. He's no rookie and has had a long career of broadcasting, but clueless yes, when you do about 5 hours of nhra coverage a weekend 23 times a year for a long time now, the slip ups should be minimal, he just does not seem to understand much of the sport.

Paul's voice is amazing. I'm sure we all know that each year, he does the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championship as well - and I think he does great at it. I can equate that to Mike Joy doing Sprint Cup each weekend, plus he does, I believe a couple of the bigger Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions.

Does Paul Page do any other TV work on a regular basis besides NHRA and Nathans ???

If you re-read the original post..Tony is not calling Paul P. classless..he saying the DRO article and that particular sentence was classless.

If you re-read the original post....it doesn't exactly say what you just wrote. Your then explaining something Tony never clearly said or not. It is unclear if Tony thinks Page is classless or not so David, it's unknown

I believe segments of X-Games.

Good grief, Patrick..Tony's next post had this in response to Darr:

"Your crass Duhh! comment about Paul Page is classless, needless, and UNPROFESSIONAL."

Reading comprehension 101.

you know ive seen more than one tv show not just the NHRA's or sports shows that say when we come back we will be talking with "so-n-so",.. and the person is already on set and on screen?

So whats the big deal?
