KING, NC (June 4, 2011) – The Coffman Tank Trucks Buell rider of Angie Smith had a great outing on Saturday during qualifying; however she is not looking forward to Sunday.
After running the fourth quickest time during the third session today, Smith qualified herself in the top half of the field. She ran a 6.898 et at 186.90 mph, which was good enough for the number eight spot. The only problem is her husband, 2007 NHRA Full Throttle Champion, Matt Smith is ninth, which means the two will face off first round.
“We ran great today,” said Angie Smith. “The 6.89 was so awesome! The only bad part is that I have to run Matt tomorrow. I hate running Matt first round. It sucks for the both of us. We are happy because we ran well today, but are bummed because we have to race each other tomorrow. It would be fine if we were in the finals, just not first round. We will go out there and give it all we got and see who comes out on top.”
Both Smith’s are fighting for the top-10 in the point standings, so a heads up race between teammates will be nice to see on race day.
Final eliminations start at 11 a.m. EST on Sunday, June 5.
