Johnny Ahten - 14th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals Preview
Ahten Looks to Return to Finals in Vegas
Las Vegas, NV. – At the spring race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Johnny Ahten went to the final round. This time around the goal is to return to the finals and best his runner-up spring finish. Once again it will be a challenge as a stout field will be in attendance. Another test will be racing without crew member Kevin Colvell, who was not able to make the race. Past Ahten Racing team member Todd “Rocky” Rockwell has stepped up and is ready to rock along with crew chief Al Ahten, team partner Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, and Chuck Costabile. The Vegas challenges have been accepted and the Island Renovations / Combust Filters dragster is ready. Johnny Ahten is pumped up and ready to go fast.
“We have our Vegas tune-up ready and we are so ready to go racing again,” said Ahten. “Our spring run of 5.30 tied a Vegas best for Ahten Racing and the 270 mph is also our fastest speed at this track. We are going to need it with the level of competition that is here. Not racing for over a month is difficult, and we are going to get our fill,” added Ahten.
Joining Ahten Racing in Vegas will be the team from Combustion Technologies, the manufacturer of Combust Filters and CleanBoost Oil. Jim LeClaire of Combustion Technologies commented, “We are excited to be here in Vegas to support the CleanBoost Performance Oil group of racers, and watch the Combust Filters flagship of Johnny Ahten blast down the strip.”
Johnny Ahten and the team will not be seduced by the bright lights and the sights and sounds of Las Vegas this weekend. All they need is the Stump Puller, some Nitromethane, and a race track to have a party. To stay informed visit: www.facebook.com/JohnnyAhtenRacing

Johnny Ahten was born into a family of racers. Ahten Racing began in the late sixty’s with Johnny’s father and Uncle hitting the local strips of Southern California. In 1998, Johnny attended Frank Hawleys’s Drag Racing School. Early the next year Johnny competed in his first full season of Top Eliminator West. He captured the Rookie of the Year title and finished 2nd place in the points. He continued to hone his driving skills the next few years until 2004 when the team moved up to Top Alcohol Dragster. Johnny qualified at his first event immediately after upgrading his license earlier in the week. Johnny's first National event win came in 2013 when he captured the NHRA Pomona World finals Top Alcohol Dragster crown. When not racing, Johnny is a Captain in the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a husband, and father of two boys.
