ADRL's Spring Drags Postponed

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 15, 2007) - Cold temperatures, strong crosswinds, and a gloomy forecast Sunday at Montgomery Motorsports Park led Flowmaster American Drag Racing League officials to postpone the third and final day of the Shelor.com Motor Mile Spring Drags.

The event will be completed later this season at MMP, according to ADRL President Kenny Nowling. "This was obviously a tough decision, especially when you consider how many people travel to our events and put in so much of their time and effort," Nowling said Sunday. "But, given today's conditions, it was really the only decision. I know I'll sound like a broken record, but the ADRL's first mission is safety, safety, safety. It seemed obvious that there was not going to be a way to keep our drivers and officials safe today."

An announcement on the make-up dates for the Spring Drags is expected soon, Nowling said. He emphasized that the rescheduled event would definitely be held at MMP.

"The fans from the area came out in force for the Spring Drags; this was the fourth consecutive event where the ADRL set a single-day track-attendance record," Nowling said. "We owe it to the people who support us to come back and give them a completed event."

The Spring Drags got off to a good start on Friday, which featured a full day of testing and racing, before being delayed by rain on Saturday and eventually postponed on Sunday. No qualifying runs were recorded in the Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, or Extreme 10.5 categories; the Pro Extreme Motorcycle class, which made its ADRL debut at the event, got in three qualifying runs.

In other racing action, eliminations for the rain-delayed 2006 ADRL World Finals were nearly completed at MMP before Sunday's postponement. That event is now down to just four drivers - Joshua Hernandez and Dwayne Watkins in Pro Extreme, and Harold Martin and Terry Housley in Pro Nitrous - and will be completed at the Camp Motorsport Georgia Drags in Valdosta on May 4 or 5.
